ETS Japanでは、英語教員およびテスト対策スクール関係者の皆様を対象に、「Teaching Academic English with the Updated TOEFL iBT® Test」をテーマとした3回シリーズのウェビナーを開催いたします。

更新されたTOEFL iBT®テストを活用したアカデミック英語指導法について、スキル別に詳しく解説いたします。各回60分、オンラインでの開催となります。

この一連のウェビナーは、TOEFL iBT テストに関連して学生の英語力を向上させるための洞察とアイデアを教師に提供します。各ウェビナーは、テストの特定のスキルセクションにおけるアップデートされたタスクの紹介から始まります。次に、各テストタスクと重要な学術的および日常生活の英語スキルとの関係が実演されます。さらに、学術的およびその他の目的のためのコミュニケーション英語能力の効果的な学習を教師が促進することを意図した戦略、技術、授業設計、および例に焦点を当てます。各ウェビナーには、教師がすぐに取り組み始めることができる豊富なリソースと実践的な教育活動が含まれています。

This series of webinars provides teachers with insights and ideas for developing their students' English abilities in relation to the TOEFL iBT test. Each webinar begins with an introduction of the updated tasks for a given skill section on the test. Next, the relationship between each test task and important academic and daily life English skills is demonstrated. The webinar then focuses on strategies, techniques, lesson designs, and examples intended to help teachers promote effective learning of communicative English abilities for academic and other purposes. Each webinar includes numerous resources and hands-on pedagogic activities that teachers can begin working with immediately.

About Speakers

Dennis Koyama

Dennis Koyama, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Rhetoric and Data Science at Sophia University, Tokyo. His research and teaching focus on critical thinking and academic writing. He has published and presented on assessment, collaborative learning, and AI literacy for multilingual writers in Japan. In this webinar, he translates current TOEFL iBT Writing changes into practical classroom strategies, emphasizing communicative purpose, form-meaning integration, and band-aligned feedback teachers can adopt immediately.

John Norris

John Norris is a Principal Research Scientist at ETS Japan, where he conducts research and outreach related to language teaching, learning, and assessment. From 2016-2022 he was Senior Research Director of the Center for Language Education and Assessment Research at Educational Testing Service in the US. Prior to joining ETS, he was a professor at Georgetown University and the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, and assessment specialist at Northern Arizona University. He began his career as an English teacher in Brazil, and he completed his Ph.D. in Second Language Acquisition at the University of Hawai‘i. John’s research focuses on language education (task-based language teaching), assessment, program evaluation, and research methods. His most recent book publications include Challenges and innovations in speaking assessment (with Larry Davis) and Assessing academic English for higher education admissions (with Xiaoming Xi), winner of the Sage/ILTA best book on language testing in 2022. John speaks and conducts research on English, German, Portuguese, and Spanish, and he is acquiring Japanese.
